I. Summary of changes
Version 5.12.01.5261 (Windows 98 only)
- (Fix) Modem may not work with a certain CDC/COMBO modem driver and Audio driver combination on Windows 98.
Note: There is no change to the driver for Windows 2000/XP. If the previous version has been installed on Windows 2000/XP, you do not need to apply this release.

II. Installation instructions
Notes:
- Verify audio driver string is correct in Device Manager. See the Determining which version is installed section for instructions.
- If DirectX 7 or DirectX 8 is installed in Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), then choose reserve all when prompted with the choice to reserve or not reserve during the installation process.
- The suggested procedure for Windows 98SE is to install the audio driver prior to installing DirectX 7 or 8.
- Microsoft Windows 2000 may not restart automatically at the end of the installation procedure and the Volume control will appear in second reboot.

Use the Modem driver listed in the chart below with the Audio driver version 5.12.01.5260 or higher.

- Start Windows 98/Me/2000/XP. For Windows 2000/XP, log on with a user ID authorized as an administrator.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: If the Found New hardware Wizard window appears, click Cancel to end the wizard.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.

III. Determining which version is installed
Windows 2000
- Start Windows 2000.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi).
- Right-click ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi), and select Properties.
- Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed.
Windows XP
- Start Windows XP.
- Click Start and then click Control Panel.
- Click Performance and Maintenance.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi).
- Right-click ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi), and select Properties.
- Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed.
Windows 98/Me
- Start Windows 98/Me.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Double-click the Sound, video and game controllers section
- Select ALi Audio Accelerator WDM driver(ALi) and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Driver File details button.
- Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\aliadwdm.sys. The file has the version number embedded.
Note: The file C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\ali51wdm.sys may also be displayed in Driver File Details window, in some instances. The file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ali51wdm.sys should be the one highlighted when checking the version of the installed driver.
