This package provides Intel(R) SpeedStep(TM) Technology Applet. SpeedStep is a mobile technology that allows an enabled CPU to operate in multiple performance states under Microsoft Windows 98/Me/2000.

NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard disk drive. It will only extract under Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Me, Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows XP.

I. Summary of changes
version 2.1

  • (New) Initial release for ThinkPad R30.
  • (New) Support for Windows NT(added).

version 2.1a

  • (Fix) Can not install by ThinkPad Software Installer.
    NOTE: There is no change to the driver itself. If you have already updated the system to this version, you do not need to apply this release.

II. Installation instructions
NOTE: If you have a previous version installed uninstall it and reboot prior to installing the current version.
Uninstall

  1. Start Windows 98/Me/NT/2000. If using Windows NT/2000, logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Click Install/Uninstall (or Change or Remove programs) tab.
  5. Click Intel Speed Step technology Applet in the list.
  6. Click the Add/Remove (or Change/Remove) button.
  7. Follow instructions and restart Windows.
Install
  1. Start Windows 98/Me/NT/2000. If using Windows NT/2000, logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract the package to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then clck Run.
  4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SPDSTP\SETUP.EXE to install the utility. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Double-click the speedstep icon in the systray ( A green flag icon in systray).
  2. Click the Advanced button and you will see the version on the top right (v2.1).
