II. Installation instructions

Clean installation

  1. Start Windows 98SE/Me.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Click Finish and reboot the system when prompted to in order to complete the installation.

Upgrading or reinstall

NOTE: Remove any previously installed driver using the uninstall procedure described in this document.

  1. Start Windows 98SE/Me.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then press Next.
  6. Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.

How to uninstall the driver

  1. Start Windows 98SE/Me.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Click SoundMAX and then click Add/Remove. (A dialog box appears.)
  5. Select Remove, then press Next.
  6. Click Finish to reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows 98SE/Me.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the System icon.
  4. Click the Device Manager tab.
  5. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section
  6. Select SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio and click Properties.
  7. Click the Driver tab.
  8. Click the Driver File details button.
  9. Highlight the file C:\winnt\system32\drivers\smwdm.sys The file has the version number embedded.
