II. Installation instructions
Clean installation
- Start Windows 98SE/Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Click Finish and reboot the system when prompted to in order to complete the installation.
Upgrading or reinstall
NOTE: Remove any previously installed driver using the uninstall procedure described in this document.
- Start Windows 98SE/Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
- If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then press Next.
- Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.
How to uninstall the driver
- Start Windows 98SE/Me.
- Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click SoundMAX and then click Add/Remove. (A dialog box appears.)
- Select Remove, then press Next.
- Click Finish to reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.
III. Determining which version is installed
- Start Windows 98SE/Me.
- Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section
- Select SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Driver File details button.
- Highlight the file C:\winnt\system32\drivers\smwdm.sys The file has the version number embedded.
