This package provides the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI Combo Card driver for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
This package enables or updates the IBM Wireless LAN function of the following ThinkPad computers:

- ThinkPad R31

The IBM High rate wireless Mini PCI firmware update is available in another package. A link is provided below.
This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

I. Summary of changes

  • (Fix) Windows NT 4.0 not entering timer suspend.

II. Installation instructions
Clean install

  1. Start Windows NT and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the Network icon. The Network Configuration dialog box is displayed if this is the first time configuring the Network. If not, go to step 20.

    First Network Configuration
  5. Click the Yes button.
  6. Select Wired to the network.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. Click the Select from list... button.
  9. Click the Have Disk... button.
  10. Type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\WLLANACT\NT4 in the Insert Disk dialog box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify the NT4 directory in this location instead.
  11. Click the OK button.
  12. Select IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card.
  13. Click the OK button.
  14. Click the Next button.
  15. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  16. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files.
    NOTE: It is usually C:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's X:\i386 directory.
  17. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  18. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
  19. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.

    Adding Wireless LAN to Network Configuration
  20. Click the Adapters tab.
  21. Click the Add... button.
  22. Click the Have Disk... button.
  23. Type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\WLLANACT\NT4 in the Insert Disk dialog box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify the NT4 directory under this location instead.
  24. Click the OK button.
  25. Select IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card.
  26. Click the OK button.
  27. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  28. Click the Close button.
  29. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  30. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.

Update install

  1. Start Windows NT and log on with a user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the Network icon.
  5. Click the Adapters tab.
  6. Select Internal IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC card.
  7. Click the Update button.
  8. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box. For example, C:\DRIVERS\WNT\WLLANACT\NT4
  9. Click the Continue button.
  10. Click the Close button.
  11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Double-click Prism icon on the system tray.
  2. Click on the About tab in the Configuration Utility The version of the drivers and firmware will be listed.
