This package provides the modem driver for Microsoft Windows 98.
This package enables or updates the modem function of the following ThinkPad computers:

- ThinkPad R31 (integrated Wireless Ethernet models only) *

* If your ThinkPad R31 is not an Ethernet Wireless integrated model, install the "ThinkPad R31 Modem driver (CDC modem) for Windows 98" instead of this package.

Note: This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

I. Summary of changes
Version 3.1.97

  • (New) Support for ThinkPad R31 (integrated Wireless Ethernet models only)

NOTE: Click here if your ThinkPad R31 system is not an integrated Wireless Ethernet model to obtain the Modem driver (CDC modem) for Windows 98 instead of this package.

II. Installation instructions
NOTE: If the audio driver has not been installed on the system, install the audio driver prior to the modem driver.

  1. Start Windows 98.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W98\MODEM\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Restart the system for the driver to take effect.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows 98.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the System icon
  4. Click the Device Manager tab.
  5. Expand the Modem section.
  6. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR and click Properties.
  7. Click the Driver tab.
  8. Click the Driver File Details button.
  9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\LTSM.VXD. The file has the version number embedded.
