I. Summary of changes

II. Installation instructions
Clean installation

  1. Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Click Finish and Reboot the system when prompt in order to complete the installation.

Upgrading or reinstall
NOTE: Remove any previously installed driver using the uninstall step in the next section.

  1. Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then press Next.
  6. Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.

Unattended install
This is for system administrators' use only.
Do as follows in the step 4 of the Clean Installation procedure above:

4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE -S in the Open box and click the OK button.

Uninstall Instructions

  1. Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Click SoundMAX NT and then click Add/Remove. (A dialog box appears.)
  5. Select Remove or OK and then press Next or OK.
  6. Click Finish or OK and reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Click Start, point to Find, then click Files or Folders.
  2. Click Name & Location.
  3. In the Named: field, type smnt40.sys. (This is a system file)
  4. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:).
  5. Click the Find Now button. If you do not find the file then the driver is not installed.
  6. Right-click the file name found in the %WNT%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. Where %WNT% is the drive and directory that Windows NT was installed in.
  7. Click Properties.
  8. Click Version and confirm the last two digits of the file version are 56.
