I. Summary of changes

- (New) Microsoft Windows XP support
- (Fix) In Windows XP, the system speed slow down in battery mode.
- (Fix) Some 3.3V PC cards may not work.

II. Installation instructions
NOTES:
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program.
- If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Make sure the SPSD diskette is write protected.
- Print these instructions or display on another computer.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
- Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer.
- Select Read this first... from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
- Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
- Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen.
Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. Do the following to make the changes effective. This is a change in the System Program Update process compared to versions prior to IMET52WW.
- Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive.
- Turn on the computer. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility automatically.
- If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Press F9 key.
- Select "Yes" to load default configuration.
NOTE
- If, after installing BIOS level IMET54WW or later, you need to install a previous BIOS release, you may receive the following error message at step 8. After turning the computer on, you hear one long and two short beeps with the following post error is displayed:
- WARNING - 0251: System CMOS checksum bad - Default configuration used
- ERROR - PS/2 mouse configuration error - device disabled
- ERROR - Resource Conflict allocation error static node # 08
I f this happens, simply turn the computer off and back on again, then proceed with step 9.

The BIOS information can be viewed by selecting System Information in the BIOS Utility menu:
- Power on the system.
- When the message Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility appears at the bottom right hand corner, press the F1 key. Wait for the BIOS Utility screen to appears.
- Select System Information. BIOS version is displayed at System BIOS Version line.
IV. Slave Controller information
The slave controller manages the Power Management functions of the system.

The slave controller version number can be viewed by running the ThinkPad Configurator utility from your operating system and selecting System Information from the Help menu or by clicking on the System Information button. The slave controller information can also be found by invoking Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board.
