Windows installation supplement files for Windows Me - ThinkPad General |
Each of the ThinkPad computers listed below will have some conflicts or problems when you install Microsoft Windows Me. This package contains some supplement files to solve the conflicts or problems for Windows Me.

Note: If you use the product Disk-to-disk or CD recovery option that shipped with your ThinkPad system to restore the Microsoft Windows Me preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows Me without using the product recovery option.

Eliminating unnecessary Hibernate tab on power options properties
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type in the following command in the Open box and then click OK C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\APM\HIDEHIBE.EXE
- Follow the instructions on the screen and reboot the system.
For ThinkPad 240X, 570E, and i Series 1124, 1157 systems
Installing Windows Me with APM mode
- Make the backup copy of the DOS or Windows Boot Disk that enables the CD-ROM drive for the system you are installing Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Copy C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\APM\APMINST.INF file to the backup copy of Windows Me Boot Disk. From now on, use this backup copy as the Windows Me Boot Diskette.
- Type SETUP A:\APMINST.INF to start the Windows Me installation, where A: is the diskette drive letter for Windows Me Boot Disk.
- Follow the instruction of Windows Me Install program.

- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Type in the following command in the Open box and click OK . C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\APM\HIDEHIBE.EXE

For ThinkPad 570, 570E, 600, 600E and 600X, i Series 1157 systems
Solving resource conflict of Bus Master IDE Hard Disk Drive Controller
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Find C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\APM\APM2APM.REG file, and double click it. The following Registry Editor's message will appear. Are you sure you want to add the information C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\APM\APM2APM.REG to the registry?
- Click Yes . A successful windows message will be displayed.
- Click OK to exit the registry editor, and reboot the system.

Installing Windows Me with APM mode

- Follow the instruction of Windows Me Install program.
For ThinkPad A20m, A20p, T20, X20 systems
Solving Swap function in ACPI mode
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard drive.
- Open the Windows Explorer.
- Find C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\ACPI\APM2ACPI.REG file, and double click it. Then the following Registry Editor's message will appear. Are you sure you want to add the information C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\ACPI\APM2ACPI.REG to the registry?
- Click Yes . Successful windows message will be displayed.
- Click OK to exit the registry editor, and reboot the system.
For ThinkPad A20m, A20p, A21e, A21m, A21p, A22m, A22p, A22e, A30, A30p, A31, A31p, T20, T21, T22, T23, T30, X20, X21, X22, X23, X24, TransNote systems
Applying LCD Color Profile
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click right button on desktop to open Display Properties.
- Click Settings tab.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Monitor tab, then Change.
- Click Have Disk.
- Specify the location where the file IBMTPLCD.INF is located, and then click OK.
- Select IBMTPLCD.INF .
- Select one panel in the list you are using now.
- Click Apply.
- Select Color management tab to make sure IBMTPLCD is loaded.
For ThinkPad A20m, A20p, A21m, A21p, A22m, A22p, A22e Pentium model, T20, T21, T22 systems
Adding PCI1450 information to the registry
- Boot the system
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\PCI1450\PCI1450.reg and click OK. The following Registry Editor's window appears, Are you sure you want to add the information PCI1450.reg to the registry?
- Click Yes, a successful windows message is displayed.
- Click OK to exit the registry editor screen.
For ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p, T23, T30, X22, X23, X24 systems
Adding USBWAKEinformation to the registry
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Open the Windows Explorer.
- Find C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\USBWAKE\USBWAKE.REG file, and double-click it. Then the following Registry Editor's message will appear. "Are you sure you want to add the information C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\ USBWAKE\USBWAKE.REG to the registry?"
- Click Yes. Successful message window will be displayed.
- Click OK to exit the registry editor, and reboot the system.
For ThinkPad Dock with ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p, T23, T30, X22, X23, X24 systems. This is registry issue that is mentioned in Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q302884. If your system and PC card have no problem, this registry fix is not needed.
Disabling Wake On Ring from PC Card modem and Wake On LAN from PC Card network adapter
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Open the Windows Explorer.
- Find C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\PCI1420\PCI1420.REG file, and double-click it. Then the following Registry Editor's message will appear. "Are you sure you want to add the information C:\DRIVERS\WME\SUPP\ PCI1420\PCI1420.REG to the registry?"
- Click Yes. Successful windows message will be displayed.
- Click OK to exit the registry editor, and reboot the system.
For ThinkPad T30 systems
This is to recognize TI 1520 CardBus controller
- Start Windows Me.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the system icon.
- Select the Device Manager tab.
- Double-click PCMCIA socket.
- Right-click Generic CardBus Controller and select Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver button.
- Click the Specify the location of the driver (Advanced) option.
- Click Next.
- Select Specify a location:.
- Click Browse and specify the directory name where you extracted this package PCI1520 subfolder, then click OK.
- Click Next.
- Confirm selecting Texas Instruments PCI-1520 CardBus Controller and click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish
- If opening System Setting Change dialog, click No to continue.
- Repeat from step 5 to 16 for another Generic CardBus Controller.
- If opening System Setting Change dialog again, click Yes to restart.
