Restoring the boot manager F11 option for a Disk-to-Disk recovery - ThinkPad A22, T22, T23, X2*

Applicable countries and regions
Symptom
The prompt To Start the Product Recovery Program, press F11 appears after the memory count/POST beep, but the program does not start or allow access to the Service Partition for a Disk-to-Disk recovery.

Affected configurations
ThinkPad A22, T22, T23, X20, X21, X22, and X23 systems all models with Product Recovery Program version 5.0 for Disk-to-Disk recovery.

Solution
To restore the access to the Product Recovery Program
  1. Click here to download and create a Service Partition Repair Diskette from the support web site.
  2. Insert the Service Partition Repair Diskette into an optional floppy drive attached to the ThinkPad A22, T22, T23, X20, X21, X22, or X23, and boot the computer. Press any key to continue to restore access to the Product Recovery Program. When completed, remove the diskette and reboot the computer.
  3. Press the F11 key during boot, when To Start the Product Recovery Program appears at the top of the screen.
  4. Follow the prompts to recover the preloaded operating system image, using Product Recovery Program.

Note: The optional CD drives that allow for recovery are:

  • ThinkPad Dock with a CD drive installed into the docking station.
  • UltraBase X2 Media Slice with a CD drive installed into the base.
  • Panasonic 8X PCMCIA connected CD drive.
