Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad X41 |
This Embedded Controller Program Utility updates the embedded controller program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad X41
The supported operating systems are as follows: - Microsoft Windows 2000 - Microsoft Windows XP
Notes: - This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00 (or higher). The BIOS is available in an additional package, a link is provided below. - If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update the BIOS first. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. |

Version 74HT27WW - 1.02
Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.01a (or higher).

(Fix) Previously released Embedded Controller 1.01(75HT19WW) may cause a spontaneous wrong key input when using an external PS/2 type keyboard.
- Numeric characters (2, 4, 6 and 8) will intermittently be inserted during while using the cursor keys.
-
The keyboard behaves as if the shift key is pressed until the shift key is pressed.
- You can only type only Uppercase characters.
- Multiple selection with cursor keys
- Numeric keypad will turn to cursor keys
Version 74HT26WW - 1.01
Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00 (or higher).
- (Fix) Fix for battery information query procesiing.
- (Fix) CPU fan state may not be correctly initialized.
- (Fix) Adjustment for CPU thermal sensor error may not work.
- (New) Support "ThinkPad NumLock" control.
Note: "ThinkPad NumLock" menu item is available in the BIOS Setup Utility only when the BIOS is also updated to version 2.05 (74ET60WW) or later.
Version 74HT25WW - 1.00
Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.00 (or higher).
- (New) Support for ThinkPad X41.
Notes:
- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the Embedded Controller Program in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the embedded controller program.
- If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your system, turn off the system and detach it before proceeding.
- Print these instructions or display on another system.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the system.
- Start a supported version of Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges on the target system.
- Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp)
- Download the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory.
- Click the Start button, then click Run.
- In the Open dialogue box, specify the utility filename with the full path name where you stored Embedded Controller Program Update Utility. (E.g. C:\Temp\74HJ02US.EXE) Then press the Enter key.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this Embedded Controller Program update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear on the screen. "DeviceIoControl() returns 2 Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again."
Windows will shut down automatically and the ThinkPad Embedded Controller Program Update Utility screen appears.
- Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
- Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
- Select Update Embedded Controller Program and follow the instruction on the screen.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the system until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the system while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off.
Do the following to make sure the Embedded Controller Program is updated correctly.
- Turn on the system.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button message is displayed at the lower left of the screen, press the Access IBM button.
- Select Start setup utility. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enters the password.
- Verify the Embedded Controller Version.
- Do the same instructions above from step 1 to step 6.
- Specify filename with the full path name where you stored Embedded Controller Program Update Utility with options -s -a -s. (E.g. C:\Temp\74HJ02US.EXE -s -a -s)
- Then press the Enter key. Windows will shut down automatically and the Embedded Controller Program will be updated without any user interaction.
Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility contains the following embedded controller program. The version of embedded controller program can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configuration from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking the BIOS Setup Utility.
- Turn off the system.
- Turn on the system.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button message is displayed at the lower left of the screen, press the Access IBM button.
- Select Start setup utility. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you type in the password. The embedded controller version is displayed on the first screen of the BIOS Setup Utility.
