Embedded Controller Program (Diskette) - ThinkPad R52 (1858, 1859, 1860, 1861, 1862, 1863, 1958), T43 (1871, 1872, 1873, 1874, 1875, 1876) |
This Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette updates the embedded controller program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
This release supports the following systems:
- ThinkPad R52 (1858, 1859, 1860, 1861, 1862, 1863, 1958 Machine types only) - ThinkPad T43, T43p (1871, 1872, 1873, 1874, 1875, 1876 Machine types only)
Note: - This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.24 (or higher). The BIOS is available in an additional package, a link is provided below. - If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update the BIOS first. |

Version 70HT28WW (1.05)
Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.24 or higher.
- (Fix) Previously released the Embedded Controller version 1.04 (70HT27WW) may spontaneously cause wrong key input while using an external PS/2 keyboard.
- Numeric characters (2, 4, 6 and 8) may be inserted while pressing the cursor keys.
- Shift key operation is done without pressing the shift key.
- Only upper case characters are typed.
- Multiple selections with the cursor keys
- Numeric keypad may work as the cursor keys.
Version 70HT27WW (1.04)
Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 1.24 (or higher).
- (New) Support for ThinkPad NumLock.

Notes:
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the embedded controller program.
- If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Make sure the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette is write-protected.
- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the Embedded Controller Program in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
- Print these instructions or display on another computer.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
- Insert the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer.
- Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
- Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
- Select Update Embedded Controller program and follow the instruction on the screen.
Note: If you are updating the Embedded Controller Program through the USB external diskette drive, it will take quite a long time to complete reading the Embedded Controller Program file, but it is normal. Continue the update.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off.
Do the following to make sure the Embedded Controller Program is updated correctly.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn on the computer.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button message is displayed at the lower left of the screen, press the Access IBM button.
- Select Start setup utility. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you type in the password.
- Verify the Embedded Controller Version.
Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette contains the following embedded controller program. The version of embedded controller program can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking BIOS Setup Utility.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button message is displayed at the lower left of the screen, press the Access IBM button.
- Select Start setup utility. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you type in the password. The embedded controller version is displayed on the first screen of the BIOS Setup Utility.
