BIOS Update (Bootable CD) - ThinkPad T60, T60p |
This System Program Service Utility updates the BIOS (system program including the Embedded Controller (EC) program) stored in the system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.

This release supports the following operating systems: - Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit - Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit (*1) - Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit - Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit (*1) - Microsoft Windows XP (Home and Professional) - Microsoft Windows 2000
If you have a ThinkPad T60 Wide screen model, you will need to download the T60 Wide screen version of the BIOS.
Notes: *1: Windows Vista and 7 64-bit support Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processors only. *2: Some 15in XGA (1024x768) LCD panels may not display correctly with BIOS version 1.06 or earlier, in this case you should upgrade to version 1.07 or higher. |

- (Fix) Fixed an issue where the computer might not start when a new ThinkPad Hard Drive Bay Adapter was installed in the Docking Station.

- Make sure you have a ThinkPad system with a CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD combo, or DVD multidrive installed and a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc.
- Start Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
- Download the ISO file.
- For Windows Vista, click Start, then click Start Search.
For Windows XP, 2000, click Start, then click Run...
- Specify the path where you downloaded the file, then click OK. RecordNow! or the default recording software will open. Example: C:\temp\79ujxxuc.iso
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Confirm that an optical drive is in the boot device list of your BIOS setup.
- Power off the computer.
- Power on the computer.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Choose Startup from the menu.
- Choose Boot from the menu. Note the current boot priority order for restoration later if you need to modify your boot list.
- In Boot Priority Order, make sure ATAPI CD0 (when using ThinkPad internal optical drives) is on top of ATA HDD0.
- Press the F3 key to exit, or press the F10 key to save the new setup and then select Yes.
- Restart the computer.
*Note: Please write down the current boot priority order for restoration later if you need to modify your boot list.
Notes:
- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS.
- If your system is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the system and detach it before proceeding.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the target computer.
- Make sure your ThinkPad computer has an optical drive installed.
- Insert the BIOS Update CD into the optical drive and turn on the computer.
- Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information.
- Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
- Select Update system program and follow the instructions on the screen.
- After the information panel appears, remove the BIOS Update CD from the optical drive then press the Enter key to restart the computer.
Attention:
Do not turn off or suspend the system until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the system while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings:
- Turn off the system.
- Turn on the system.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
- The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password.
- Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
- Select Yes.
- Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
- Select Yes.
- Restart the computer.
Notes:
- After initialization you may need to re-apply some settings that you had changed previously.
- After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically.
- Each version of the System Program Service Utility contains the following system program (BIOS) and the Embedded Controller program. The BIOS Version and the the Embedded Controller version number can be viewed by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.
- Turn off the system.
- Turn on the system.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
- The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password.
- Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version.
- Turn off the system.

- D0000-D1FFF : Reserved for Option ROM of Ethernet (*1)
- DC000-DFFFF : Reserved for USB BIOS (*2)

- C0000-CE7FF : Reserved for Video BIOS
- CE800-D07FF : Reserved for Option ROM of Ethernet (*1)

- E0000-FFFFF : Reserved for System BIOS
- Notes:
- (*1) This area becomes free by disabling the Ethernet Network Option ROM option under Config and Network in BIOS Setup Utility. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features.
- (*2) This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems.
