1 System display System display The high-resolution, thin-film transistor (TFT) display provides clear and brilliant text and graphics.
2 Power-status and System-status indicators Power/system status indicators The power-status indicators show whether the system is in standby, hibernation, or normal mode, show if the ac adapter is connected and powering the system, and show the charge level of the battery.
Your system also has four system-status indicators: Numeric lock, Caps lock, Drive in use, and Power on.
If your system is shipped with a wireless feature and a Bluetooth feature, it can use the wireless status indicators and the Bluetooth status indicator.
3 Power switch Power switch Use the power switch to turn on the system. To turn off your system, use the Start menu shutdown options on Windows. The power switch can also be programmed to shut down the system or put it into standby or hibernation.
If you cannot turn off the system by this method, press and hold the power switch for 2 seconds.
If your system stops responding, and you cannot turn it off, press and hold the power switch for 4 seconds or more. If the system is still not reset, remove the ac adapter and the battery.
4 Forward and Back keys Forward and Back keys The Forward and Back keys on your keyboard near the cursor-control keys are used with your Internet browser, such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. They function like the forward and back arrows in the browser that move you back and forward to pages you have viewed in the order that you opened them.
5 Built-in microphone Built-in microphone The built-in microphone captures sound and voice when it is used with an application program capable of handling audio.
6 PCI Express Mini Card slot PCI Express Mini Card slot Your system might include a PCI Express Mini Card in the PCI Express Mini Card slot which enables wireless LAN communication.
7 Modem Daughter Card slot Modem Daughter Card slot Your system might include a modem daughter card in the Modem Daughter Card slot. This card enables modem communications.
8 Fingerprint reader Fingerprint Reader Some ThinkPad models have the fingerprint reader. The fingerprint authentication technology enables you to use your fingerprint to start the system and enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
9 TrackPoint pointing stick
TrackPoint The keyboard contains the unique TrackPoint cursor-pointing device. Pointing, selecting, and dragging are all part of a single process that you can perform without moving your fingers from typing position.
The TrackPoint provides functions similar to those of a mouse and its buttons.
10 TrackPoint buttons
11 Fn key Fn key Use the Fn key to take advantage of ThinkPad functions, such as turning on the ThinkLight. To use ThinkPad functions, press Fn + the required function key marked in blue.
12 Volume control buttons Volume control buttons The built-in volume buttons enable you to quickly adjust the volume or mute the sound from your ThinkPad system.
13 ThinkVantage button ThinkVantage button Press the ThinkVantage button to open the ThinkVantage Productivity Center.
14 UltraConnect wireless LAN antennas: main and auxiliary   ThinkPad models feature an integrated diversity antenna system built into the display for optimal reception, enabling wireless communication wherever you are.
15 Thinklight ThinkLight Use the ThinkLight device to illuminate the keyboard when you are using your ThinkPad under less than perfect lighting conditions.
16 UltraConnect wireless LAN antenna: third   If your computer has the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) wireless LAN feature, the third wireless antenna is on the top side of the computer display.
17 UltraConnect wireless WAN antenna   If your computer has the wireless WAN feature, the antenna is on the right side of the computer display.
