Enabling Wake on LAN from Standby for ENERGY STAR Version 4.0 for Windows 7, Vista and XP - ThinkPad

This package installs the module to enable the Wake On LAN (WOL) feature from Standby state for ENERGY STAR Version 4.0

Note:
*1: - ThinkPad W700, W700ds support the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Professional edition only.
- ThinkPad T400s multi-touch models and X200 Tablet do not support Windows 7 Home Basic edition.
*2: Only ThinkPad W700, W700ds support Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.

Installation Instructions

Note: If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.

Manual Update

This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

[Downloading file]

  1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
  4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.

[Extracting file]

  1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
  2. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded.
  3. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen. The default extraction location is C:\DRIVERS\OSFIXES\VISTA\CTRLWOL.

[Installing files]

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, then select Accessories.
  2. [Windows 7/Vista] Right-click Command Prompt. Then select Run (Open) as Administrator.
  3. [Windows XP/2000] Click Command Prompt.
  4. At the command prompt, type the following and press the Enter key. CD The extraction location in the step 8 Example: CD C:\DRIVERS\OSFIXES\VISTA\CTRLWOL
  5. At the command prompt, type the following and press the Enter key. cscript CTRLWOL.vbs ENABLE
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer.

Finally delete the file saved in Downloading File Step 4.

Uninstallation Instructions

Manual Uninstall

  1. Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and extract the file.
  2. Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  3. Click Start, click All Programs, then select Accessories.
  4. [Windows 7/Vista] Right-click Command Prompt. Then select Run (Open) as Administrator.
  5. [Windows XP/2000] Click Command Prompt.
  6. At the command prompt, type the following and press the Enter key. CD The extraction location in the step 8 Example: CD C:\DRIVERS\OSFIXES\VISTA\CTRLWOL
  7. At the command prompt, type the following and press the Enter key. cscript CTRLWOL.vbs DISABLE
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer.
