Thinkpads will fail with PXE booted with Altiris PXE deployment server

Symptom

When T400, T500 and W500 Thinkpads are PXE booted to an Altiris 6.x PXE deployment server, the ThinkPad will fail to boot and display the following message:

PCI System Error on Bus/Device/Function 0008h

PCI System Error on Bus/Device/Function 0100h

Affected configurations

The following ThinkPad Systems running on Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows XP:

ThinkPad T400
ThinkPad T500
ThinkPad W500

Solution

The Intel Turbo Memory card is incompatable with Altiris PXE server. The card should be physically removed from the machine prior to PXE booting. Lenovo and Intel are investigating this issue.
